I don't even have to connect the second USB cord to get the disc running on my 17" macbook pro. I am very happy with this purchase. I bought two of them and they work great.
That sold me. and drove a car tire over it and it still kept on working. It did better than all other similar products. I bought this for my teenage son. We've only used it for a brief time, but I felt OK about having my son take it on a two week road trip where it hit the floor a couple of times with no problems. This seemed very durable. He's very hard on everything he touches. We saw a review on the Popular Mechanics website and they dropped it from above 15 ft.
If it holds up, and I think it will since I do not plan to use it on a daily basis, then this was a nice buy I just attached this drive to my 10 in Acer - recognized it right away running Windows XP - I copied about 10 gigs of image and music files with no problem - in about 10 minutes. I kept it attached with the laptop running for 3 hours - it did not get hot like others have mentioned - hardly even warm - not sure if leaving it attached would result in a hot to handle item - but I think that at least for a few hours heat will be no problem.It was formatted in NTSF out of the box - I did not have to do anything so I am not sure why others did.
This was an impulse buy and I am very glad I went with the impulse. It's as simple to use as a thumb drive and has a ton of space for the price. I purchased this drive as a place to backup my hard drive as well as storing files that I don't necessarily want taking up significant space. This drive has been ideal for those tasks.
If it dies unexpectedly I'll come back and update my review. Reliability will probably be good, but I've only had it for a month, so I can't say much yet. As far as USB hard drives go, this is a good choice. It's fast, it's pretty, and it's not too big.
